Sandy Martin is smart, ambitious, talented, motivated, and energetic. But despite her many attributes, it took her more than five years to find a job. Ask her why, and she’ll tell you that employers didn’t take her seriously because she is totally visually impaired. Sandy to Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida for assistance, and her Goodwill employment consultant acted as an advocate on her behalf, coaching Sandy on interview skills, contacting potential employers, and even accompanying Sandy on job interviews. Sandy is now employed as an outreach coordinator for the Visually Impaired Persons of Southwest Florida, a job that seems perfect for many skills and talents. Since Goodwill helped her to find a job, Sandy has become one of Southwest Florida’s most visible advocates for people with visual impairments. Congratulations, Sandy, on being named Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida’s 2008 Graduate of the Year!
